About

Z-Com is, first and foremost, a game in the spirit of UFO: Enemy Unknown.

But Z-Com is also a small hobby project that has a few different goals:

  1. Learn about graphics programming. Despite 20 years of experience in video game development, and 5 of those working on an engine, I have never written a renderer.
  2. Gain experience with a variety of open-source libraries for cross-platform development.
  3. Have a project with which I can practice more modern C++.
  4. Blog about the project journey.
  5. Last, but not least, I miss games like the original UFO: Enemy Unknown. Therefore, this project also aims to scratch my own itch of playing a game like that again.
